This ride climb towards one of the most colorful
towns of the Cordillera Negra: Huaylas. A farmers range and its
ancient Pre Inca remains. In addition, the view of the snow capped
mountains from this privileged position is unrivaled. While
descending, several green cacti contrast against the reddish soil
until arrive to Cañon del Pato, a stretched passage between
the two cordilleras where 35 tunnels make possible to arrive back to
Caraz.

Ride starts descending towards Choquechaca Bridge
and cross the river Santa, going uphill for 35km and climbing +420m
ending at Huaylas. We visit an archaeological complex known as
‘Chupacoto. Then, riding downhill, evidences of Ancient Paints are
seen at ‘Inca Amanan'. There are 27 switch backs that lead us to
land at Huallanca. This 45km downhill descends –900m. From this
point, we climb about 100m. to reach tunnel 39 at the Cañon del
Pato. After 14km we reach asphalt road where support vehicle may
lift us to Caraz. |
